I recently went on a Himalayan trek in Ladakh, India. My trekking group was lead by a sherpa and we often hiked for several hours a day up and down mountain passes, along cliffs, and across rivers. It was challenging, beautiful and I soon discovered the river crossings were stressing me out. We did not cross slow bubbling streams - the rivers were swift, deep and had many sharp large rocks sticking out of them. I often did not see the bottom of the river as we were jumping rock to rock.
